Provision of quality education in the context of Syrian refugee children in the UK: opportunities and challenges

Abstract

While existing research has shown the importance of the three interrelated domains of the wider policy, the school and home/community environments in the development of quality education for learners, this literature does not fully capture the experiences of the refugee population. In this article we focus on a group of Syrian refugees who came as part of the first large cohort that was welcomed in the UK in December 2015. We adapt Tikly’s quality education frameworks and develop a model that highlights not only the importance of the three intersecting environments, but also the specific inputs/processes that are critical to achieving quality education for refugees. In so doing, we stress the critical role of English as a tool for refugee children’s inclusion and integration in schools. Consequently, the contribution of the paper is an understanding of the inputs/processes that are key to the development of quality education for migrant/refugee children.  相似文献

利用 195 3- 1993年全国烤烟单位面积产值、产量和上中等烟比重资料 ,将全国视为一个大区 ,划分全国烤烟高低产值、丰歉和优劣质年景 ,研究高低产值年烤烟产值与产量及上中等烟比重之间的关系 ,结果表明 :高产值年每hm2 烤烟平均产值 2 70 3 .0 3元、产量 16 0 8.75kg、上中等烟比重 49.77% ,气象产值、产量和上中等烟气象比重分别占实际产值、产量和上中等烟比重 17.92 %、11.2 4%和 3 .92 % ,由于气象条件有利使单产增加和上中等烟比重提高而增加的产值分别占气象产值 49.71%和 5 0 2 9% ;低产值年每hm2 烤烟平均产值 15 2 4.90元、产量 10 75 .71kg、上中等烟比重 42 .5 6 % ,气象产值、产量和上中等烟气象比重的绝对值分别占实际产值、产量和上中等烟比重 2 9.97%、18.6 9%和 2 .87% ,由于气象条件不利使单产减少和上中等烟比重降低而减少的产值分别占气象产值 5 2 .91%和47.0 9%。  相似文献

Selecting the correct method for routine analysis by ‘method evaluation’ is an important component of quality assurance. It is a step-wise procedure that evaluates various analytical parameters like accuracy, precision etc of the given method. Finally reference intervals are established for selected population. Effects of user experience on user resistance to change to the voice user interface of an in‑vehicle infotainment system: Implications for platform and standards competition

This study examines the effects of user experience on user resistance to change—particularly, on the relationship between user resistance to change and its antecedents (i.e. switching costs and perceived value) in the context of the voice user interface of an in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) system. This research offers several salient findings. First, it shows that user experience positively moderates the relationship between uncertainty costs (one type of switching cost) and user resistance. It also negatively moderates the association between perceived value and user resistance. Second, the research test results demonstrate that users with a high degree of prior experience with the voice user interface of other smart devices exhibit low user resistance to change to the voice user interface in an IVI system. Third, we show that three types of switching costs (transition costs, in particular) may directly influence users to resist a change to the voice user interface. Fourth, our test results empirically demonstrate that both switching costs and perceived value affect user resistance to change in the context of an IVI system, which differs from the traditional IS research setting (i.e. enterprise systems). These findings may guide not only platform leaders in designing user interfaces, user experiences, and marketing strategies, but also firms that want to defend themselves from platform envelopment while devising defensive strategies in platform and standards competition.  相似文献
